The goal of the Volunteer and Information Center is to help solve problems and meet the needs of the community through the use of volunteers. This weekly column, prepared by the Volunteer and Information Center, is designed to help non-profit community service organizations in the Gleaner’s coverage area recruit volunteers.

The Henderson Humane Society is in need of dog leashes, Kitty litter, dog shampoo, Liquid Laundry detergent, bleach and old bath towels. They are also in need of kitten food and large wire crates as well as volunteers to help with local adopt-a-thons and at Pets Mart adoptions in Evansville. The Habitat Restore is in need of Bedroom Furniture, home décor items, desks, building supply items and clean working appliances. They are also in need of part time help to assist with pick up and store organization (must be able to lift at least 50 pounds). Store hours are Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m-4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-12 a.m. Donation and Pick up Days are Tuesday – Friday. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Volunteer and Information Center is initiating a new program that will provide electric space heaters for low income households in the Henderson community. Individuals may make a monetary donation toward the purchase of a new electric heater or may choose to purchase an electric heater to donate to this program. Recipients must meet income guidelines as set by the Department of Social Services. For more information about this program contact the VIC at 831-2273.
Matthew 25 is in need o 9x12 catalog envelopes, inkjet printable business cards and copy paper. They also need adults or High School aged individuals to assemble safer sex kits. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

They are also in need of paper products and cleaning supplies. Please bring donated items to the Shelter between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
