The goal of the Volunteer and Information Center is to help solve problems and meet the needs of the community through the use of volunteers. This weekly column, prepared by the Volunteer and Information Center, is designed to help non-profit community service organizations in the Gleaner’s coverage area recruit volunteers.

Zach’s Kitchen at Matthew 25 is in need of canned fruit and meat, shaving cream, shampoo and bars of soap. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
The Girl Scouts of Kentuckianna are in need of adult volunteers to lead troops, help recruit and offer their talents to the scouts. For example a baker could let the girls tour their bakery and teach them how they make their products. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
The WARM Center is in need of nursing scrubs and uniforms, umbrellas, socks, jeans and Kleenex. They are also in need of Highlighter pens. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
The Answer Center is in need of Seasonal clothing as well as pots, pans, sheets of all sizes and bath and kitchen towels. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
Saint Anthony’s Hospice is in need of Kleenex, regular and decaf coffee and other coffee supplies for the LSK Care Center. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
Matthew 25 is in need of volunteers interested in planting or helping to maintain the “Garden of Hope”. The “Garden of Hope” is a vegetable garden that will provide food items for the food pantry (Zach’s Kitchen) and provide fresh vegetables for Matthew 25 clients. Riverview School is in need of paper towels, Kleenex, toilet paper, 13 gallon trash bags and 55 gallon trash bags. They also continue to collect General Mills box tops and pennies. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
Henderson Christian Community Outreach is in an emergency situation. They are in need of all kinds of food items to fill the pantry shelves. They are also in need of personal care and household items and all types of office supplies. They also continue to collect Sureway Super Saver Food Stamps. New Beginnings(formerly Rape Victims Services) is in need of volunteers in Henderson and Union counties to man the Crisis Hot Line and to help with Medical Advocacy. No experience is necessary, volunteers will be trained. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.
Marsha’s Place is in need of diapers of all sizes, canned chicken, spaghetti sauce with meat, up-to-date maternity clothing of all sizes, light weight sleepers, baby lotion, shampoo and baby wash. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273

***The Childrens Advocacy Center is in need of paper towels, individual sized bottles of water, Kleenex, toilet paper, Capri Sun and individual wrapped low sugar snacks. Play Doh, puzzles books for the older kids as well as some teen magazines. They are also in need of volunteers to do some yard work…trimming hedges and pulling weeds.
