The goal of the Volunteer and Information Center is to help solve problems and meet the needs of the community through the use of volunteers.  This weekly column, prepared by the Volunteer and Information Center, is designed to help non-profit community service organizations in the Gleaner’s coverage area recruit volunteers.

The Volunteer and Information Center is collecting used ink jet and laser printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones.  For more Information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

Marsha’s Place is in need of pull-ups, Mac n’ Cheese Dinners and Hamburger Helper Dinners.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The WARM Center is in need of nursing scrubs and uniforms, umbrellas, socks, jeans and Kleenex. For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Henderson Humane Society is in need of dog leashes, Kitty litter, dog shampoo, Liquid Laundry detergent, bleach and old bath towels.    They are also in need of  kitten food and large wire crates as well as volunteers to help with local adopt-a-thons and at Pets Mart adoptions in Evansville.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Habitat Restore is in need of Bedroom Furniture, home décor items, desks, building supply items and clean working appliances.   They are also in need of part time help to assist with pick up and store organization (must be able to lift at least 50 pounds).  Store hours are Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m-4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-12 a.m.  Donation and Pick up Days are Tuesday – Friday.   For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273. 

Henderson Christian Community Outreach is in need of personal items and household items.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Answer Center is in need of fall and winter clothing only as well as pots, pans, sheets of all sizes and bath and kitchen towels.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Housing Authority of Henderson is in need of personal care items for both male and female.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

Riverview School is in need of Tri-cycles for outdoor use.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Volunteer and Information Center is initiating a new program that will provide electric space heaters for low income households in the Henderson community.  Individuals may make a monetary donation toward the purchase of a new electric heater or may choose to purchase an electric heater to donate to this program.  Recipients must meet income guidelines as set by the Department of Social Services.  For more information about this program contact the VIC at 831-2273.

Matthew 25 is in need o 9x12 catalog envelopes, inkjet printable business cards and copy paper.  They also need adults or High School aged individuals to assemble safer sex kits.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

The Salvation Army is in need of old bicycles that can be refurbished.  These bicycles will be given away to people in need of some form of transportation.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

***Zach’s Kitchen at Matthew 25 is in need of canned fruit and meat, shaving cream, shampoo and bars of soap.  For more information contact the VIC at   831-2273.

***The Shelter for Women and Children is in need of office supplies such as letter size envelopes, copy paper, stapler remover, stapler and white out.  They are also in need of paper products and cleaning supplies.  Please bring donated items to the Shelter between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273.

***The Girl Scouts of Kentuckianna are in need of adult volunteers to lead troops, help recruit and offer their talents to the scouts.  For example a baker could let the girls tour their bakery and teach them how they make their products.  For more information contact the VIC at 831-2273
